February 1 – National Freedom Day

On this day in 1865 President Lincoln signed the 13th amendment which outlawed slavery in the United States. Truly a great day in our history! In 1948 Harry Truman signed the bill to make this holiday official!

Today is a day to celebrate equality and the fact that some people finally got some sense knocked into them that slavery is wrong. It is sad to think about that in today’s world there is so much slavery still happening around the world. My church is working with a group in Cambodia to free 100 girls that have been sold into the sex slave industry – unbelievable to me that things like that still happen today.

Enjoy your freedoms today and help those who are still in slavery; physically, emotionally, addictions, there are many different types, and many people are suffering.
